Fort Tuthill, Flagstaff, AZ (MBAA race #7)

Hello,

I am dissappointed to let you know that I didn't have as good of a race as I did last time. In fact my race here in my current hometown was more of a serious failure. I did fiNNish the race but this time I was "still" quite dissapointed in myself. My personal bike had broke so a friend of mine was kind enough to let me race his. I had setup the bike to work for my own preferences and it worked faultless during the race. The irony was that before the race I had worried about my lone bike holding up instead of my body.

But it was my body that made for a unsuccessful race. It was quite strange. I had never experienced anything like that before. My strategy was to get a good start and get into the lead. The course was so incredibly dusty that I didn't want to ride behind anyone risking dust buildup in my lungs. I got the start I wanted and led for most of the first lap. But as we reached midpoint of the first lap I started getting this unusual ache in my lungs. I tried to neglect that feeling but eventually my lungs ached so bad that I had to stop. I almost threw up at that point. I laid myself down and a spectator offered me some water. It took me a little while untill the pain started to diminish. After c. 5-10 min I decided to get back in the race and try again. I increased my speed but could never get back into my rythm again. I also felt weak in my legs and decided to make it a "training" ride instead. The result: Dare I say, last place but not least, a fiNNished place.
